CitCom.ai attends the official launch of the EU LDT Toolbox
Last June the 16th and 17th, our research team from the University of Valencia, as a partner in the European CitCom.ai project, had the pleasure of attending the official launch of the EU Local Digital Twin (LDT) Toolbox. This event marks the start of a strategic initiative by the European Commission that is called to completely transform urban management over the coming years.
The event gave us a first-hand insight into an ecosystem of modular, open-source tools designed specifically to enable local authorities to simulate, analyse and plan urban environments in a far more efficient and sustainable way, whilst always basing their decisions on reliable data. As a team dedicated to developing urban technology solutions, this launch represents a major step forward in line with our objectives.
Great variety of activities that we took part in during the event
On the first day, held on Tuesday 16th and focusing on ‘Vision and Strategy’, we began with the official opening ceremony to explore the evolution of this project from its initial conception to becoming a fully deployable product. As well as delving into its great strategic value, we were treated to a magnificent live demonstration of the platform. The day concluded with a highly inspiring round-table discussion, where representatives from the first pilot projects shared the challenges and realities they face on the ground.
Wednesday 17th, meanwhile, was dedicated to “Action and Success Stories”. In this second session, we delved into the real-world impact of the tool through the experiences of cities such as Kajaani and Oslo. The culmination of the day was taking part in the Playground, an interactive workshop space where, guided directly by the technical team and developers, we were able to explore the usefulness of the various tools first-hand.

For us, attending this event has been an extremely enriching experience. Learning how the EU LDT Toolbox works has been a great source of inspiration for us and encourages us to reflect on how these tools and synergies can enrich our own research and development within the CitCom.ai framework. This experience reaffirms our conviction that the future of smart cities inevitably lies in interoperability, open source, and close collaboration between institutions and projects.
